'Okay, kote gaeshi..' he mumbles to himself. His wrists are grabbed. He pushes forward with a slide step. His movements are slow and determined. He twists his front most fingers to the sky. He brings his trailing hand to rest on the back of his attacker's now torqued grip. He lowers both his hands, pulls down and to the side. As his twisting hand slips free from entrapment, he slides his back foot to position beside his other. Feet together, his hand sweeps up to signify a swipe to the attacker's eyes. Hand coming down, he forces his attacker to the ground by applying more torque. The mat shakes once from the body's impact and the free hand's whack to the surface. Still gripping the attacker's torqued hand, he uses his free hand to feign a chop to the attacker's neck. End of technique. He helps his attacker up and they trade roles. He now being the attacker, grabs his opponents wrists. His opponent mirrors his previous movements. His arm is twisted up, a hand flashes past his face. With a twinge of pain he is sent to the ground. Making sure to whack the mat with as much of his body at once, he recoils his slapping hand to hover over his neck to block the next strike. Both standing, it is his turn to apply the technique. He tries to do it faster this time. He wants to test for his next belt soon. Grabbed, push, slide, twist, slip, free, sweep, slide, torque, drop, slide, bend, chop. "Good, now do it again, this time sliding your foot beside the other at the same time you break your hand free." "Oh, damn, I didn't even notice that." His wrists are grabbed. He goes a little slower again. Push, slide, twist, slide, slip, free- he stops. "Dammit. Lemme try it again." He lets go. His wrists are grabbed. Push slide twist slip free slide- "At the same time.." his attacker mentions. "Dammit!" he looks down at his feet. He practices his movement with the air for a second, sliding his foot and slipping his hand free at the same time. "Okay." he nods. His wrists are grabbed. He can't believe he's not getting this still. He's done it so many times. He just saw Sensei demonstrate it again, several times at different angles. He pushes forward. He twists, he grabs, he slides his foot and slips hand free. He grins a little, finally getting it right again. He sweeps his hand up, then torques the hand - "Oop.." he blurts. His grip was not correct, and his attackers hand slipped free during the drop to the floor. "Okay, one more-" he starts. Sensei claps twice. "Dammit!" End of exercise. They thank each other in japanese, bow lightly and sit once more at the edge of the mat. |

This is really effective; not only are the same words used over and over, it's a description of doing the same thing again and again and again, so the repetition feels natural. Great job! |

Yes, really nice. I love the way you used all three forms of repetition as the integral theme of the piece as opposed to just working them in somewhere. I think all the repetition helps me really feel the student's frustration. Cool. |

This is great, Hoby. I've never seen this sort of thing written out in detail. It's intriguing. I agree with Kate and Eithne. It's a very effective piece! |
