How are Yoooo this beyoootyful day?� Biggie-Smalls lookin backside for Anna, makin sher no yuckers commin into da baffroom fer smakkins or summat. Coasty clear tho, Anna jes brushin toofies, no problemo. �Oh look Miss Biggie! Da waters so fast downa drain, it ate up Anna�s toof-bush�..bye now!� Anna waven bye now, so do Biggie-Smalls. �Ooh Miss Anna! Why dooooon�t you make a saweeeeet leetul lake here in the seenk? Sooo seeeempul. Just skuhweeeeze a beet off tooth-goo eento the darkey leetul hole? Why Yeeeessssss! Eeeet eees a beyoootyful leetul lake!� Yup yup, Anna here be makin one big puddle inna sink. Sok, water inna sink isna too messy, yuss? ***** �Ouch!� Anna slip an smakded her teef onna sink! �.Is cold onna mouf�.Yuckers! � Mamma! Mamma!� Woozy now�.Anna lips all funny. �Avva chalk like dish now�� Hey Miss Biggie, look at da toofies fer Annas, kay? �.what say Miss Biggie? �Ooh Anna! Your leetul teeths are all loosy loose! I love Anna and Miss Biggie-Smalls! This piece has had me laughing over and over. There's something so endearing here. The pretend innocence of this one gets me: �Ooh Miss Anna! Why dooooon�t you make a saweeeeet leetul lake here in the seenk? Sooo seeeempul. Just skuhweeeeze a beet off tooth-goo eento the darkey leetul hole? Why Yeeeessssss! Eeeet eees a beyoootyful leetul lake!� and the attempt at lightening the situation: �Ooh Anna! Your leetul teeths are all loosy loose! Teethies coming out soon, jeeeyust lahk the beeeg cheeeldren!� Having the childish dialect occur throughout the entire piece makes the reading smooth and maintains the intimacy of it. Oh, and describing the blood as sickly red clothing on Miss Biggie-Smalls is horrible and effective. |

This piece is so real to me. Your four-year-old's voice is convincing, like there is nothing else going on in the world but what Anna and Miss Biggie Smalls are up to. I understand everything that Anna and MBS say, but I don't think I would if I listened to them in real life. They would probably talk too fast for my close-minded adult ears to understand, that distinction is what draws me in as a reader, let in on an intimate secret moment, makes the reader four again - or answers the question 'what is she talking about when she goes off on her little make-believe chit chats?' The dialogue is super musical, which I can hear from inside the intimate relationship and as an adult down the hall. Love how the voice changes after she hits her mouth! There are many levels to this, behind the cutesy talk there is a lot of darkness from beginning to end. Scary! |

Ok, just looked at this again. Question to anyone...Am I projecting my own personal connection between imaginary friends and fear, or is it really in this story? For example "Biggie-Smalls lookin backside for Anna, makin sher no yuckers commin into da baffroom fer smakkins or summat." Is she really afraid or is this just fun? |
